"In History of Inequality in South Africa, Stellenbosch University professor Sampie Terreblanche made a case that, one of the concerns that shaped negotiations for democracy in South Africa was how to maintain continuity when it comes to capital accumulation including protection of standing corporations. Sampie argued that a strategy was devised by apartheid government: to accomodate some of the black elites in the corporate sector, so that the color of money becomes...eh...how can I say this...let's say transparent. With the creation of the black bourgeoisie -- irrespective of how few and insignificant they are--the shape of the problem would change from 'white' capital to capital."..............
The logic of things is that the black elite would become part of the problem (viz. uneven accumulations of resources amidst growing poverty among the masses) and that would ultimately lift the yoke of guilt from 'white' capital, the latter understood to be responsible for the greater malady of poverty in South Africa. Consider what constitutes class as defined by Karl Marx. Then ask yourself, do we have a black bourgeoisie as a class? Is there intention to fully incorporate black bourgeoisie as a class in for itself?
No doubt, the so-called black bourgeoisie is at the receiving end of criticisms as a class; a self-interested class. BUT: Is the criticism justified? There is this saying that goes you can't have you cake and eat it. What it means is that if you eat your cake it's not there anymore. To have it, you can't eat it. So, the issue of class and the black bourgeoisie: if they are a formidable solid class they have to display characters such as domination, control, and self-interests. I do not think they meet this criteria at this point. And, I do not think they are fully part of a class. They are on the outskirt of what constitutes a class. However, they are being criticized as a class. It beats me! Perhaps, the notion of black bourgeoisie was only meant to legitimize white capital, just to shift the debate and broaden it in a way that it seems more more complicated.
on the political front......the reds are making a mockery of us and our beliefs.
